What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Back Of The Knee?

I have had pain behind my right knee. I can walk on it and stand on it, but I can not bend my knee as though to lift my leg to go upstairs, sit down, squat, etc. I'm trying to access if I should wait til Feb 1 to see my doctor or go to Care Now . There is swelling in the area and a dark line on the backside of the knee.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have pain and swelling in the back of the knee. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like baker's cyst , DVT , hamsting injury , achilles tendonitis or knee sprain. I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor order CT sca, MRI along with physical examination . Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant along with anti inflammatory , methotrexate , recommend physical therapy . Doctor may recommend surgical removal of cyst and correction or other condition .
