What Causes Pain And Swelling In Left Nostril?

Recently I discovered that my left nostril has become a little bigger than the other one. I noticed this because I have pointy nostrils and the left one became a bit rounded. At first there was a slight bit of pain and swelling, but about 2ish days later it s raw and extremely painful. Also, it has been creating a lot more mucous and is crystallizing which makes it even more painful to blow my nose or touch the inside. I speculate it could have originated from a cut on the inside, but I cannot be completely sure. What could be wrong, how was it caused and what can I do to fix it?

Hi,

You have likely developed an infection or injury inside your left nostril, causing pain, swelling, increased mucus production, and tenderness when touched. You may have a nasal abscess, a cut or a sore inside your nostril, or even a sinus infection.

To get a proper diagnosis and treatment, I recommend you to see a doctor or a specialist in ear, nose, and throat (ENT). They may perform a physical examination, ask about your symptoms and medical history, and potentially run tests, such as a CT scan or a culture of any discharge, to determine the cause of your symptoms.

In the meantime, you can try to reduce the pain and swelling by applying a warm compress to the affected area, taking over-the-counter pain relievers, and keeping your nose and sinuses moist by drinking plenty of fluids and using a saline nasal spray. However, these are just temporary measures, and it's essential to seek medical advice to address the root cause of your symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
