Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have pain in my left shoulder. It hurts when people touch it and when I do things. I can still do things just hurts more when I do. I also have numbness that goes down to my hand. My thumb is numb all day long. Through out the day my are tingles and then goes numb.
Tingling and numbness in thumb and upper extremity is suggestive of a cervical spondylitis with nerve compression as the most common cause. Other causes can be related to some diseases of nerves. But you have painful movement and tenderness of the shoulder joint. This suggests local muscle spasm or peri-arthritis that is inflammation around the joint. Capsule tear if there is any history of direct or indirect trauma.
I would suggest first of all, to put your elbow joint and forearm in a sling that will carry on the load to the left side of neck. This will help to reduce the pressure on muscles around shoulder joint, neck and upper limb. Take an anti-inflammatory that suits you. Consult an orthopedic Surgeon for an actual clinical examination, investigations like MRI of the cervical spine, shoulder as needed. This will help to get an appropriate diagnosis and correct line of medical and surgical treatment if needed.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
