What Causes Pain And Burning Sensation On The Face And Head?

past week the right side of my face was in a lot of pain plus headache 4 nights with no sleep I finally went to the family doctor on Thursday. he took 2.50 minutes and told me I had a sinus infection.. I was pretty worried because of my graves disease and emergency eye decompression some years back. put me on antibiotics .pain still wont go away . but now the right side is burning sensation. probably a number 9 in pain. any ideas? Thanks Kevin

Hello,

If you've not responded to the round of antibiotics that you were placed on then, I would ask to see the doctor again for a CT of the sinuses in order to show the presence of the acute sinus congestion he diagnosed.

One type of problem that can mimic acute sinus infections is a migraine headache which can present as burning facial pain, congestion and painful pressure in the frontal sinus region.

Treatment of such headaches with appropriate antimigraine drugs is the approach of choice. Antibiotics have no effect on that particular problem for obvious reasons.
