What Causes Oral Thrush?

Hi, I have a white tongue, particularly from middle to back. Also, have had the flu and virus that turned into a bacterial infection (Green Mucus) and was prescribed a Z-pack for it. THat was a month ago, and I have the white tongue plus heaviness in my upper chest with phlegm and constant tiredness despite plenty of rest. I have never felt well - and I m a generally healthy person. Should I head to the doctor again? Thank you, Gail

Hello,

As per your query, you have symptoms of oral thrush which seems to be due to fungal infection which remains persistent and leading to formation of thick white layer in oral cavity and its surfaces and you are having co-infection of upper respiratory tract as well which is giving you other symptoms.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to maintain complete oral hygiene. You should visit oral pathologist once if symptoms keeps on persisting and start treatment after prescription.

Go for biopsy of lesions if symptoms keep on persisting. Avoid sharp, hot and spicy foods. Take Amphotericin B. Avoid stress and take Probiotics like Yoghurt in diet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
