Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am an 81 year old male 72 178lb in better than average condition. I don t smoke and have nothing seriously wrong except slightly elevated blood pressure. No allergies I know of. I have had a cough on and off for a year. More recently I started coughing up lumpy mucous. The situation changed late January when I got what I recognized as bronchitis and from experience I started taking Amoxicillin to avoid a secondary infection. That seemed to have little effect on the frequency of coughing although I felt better almost immediately - in 1-2 days. All that has changed is the white phlegm I now cough up is viscous rather than lumpy. Any ideas about the probable cause?
Hi, From history it seems that you might be having COPD i.e chronic occlusivie pulmonary disease giving this problem often. Go for, x-ray chest. complete blood checking like TC,DC, ESR, Eosinophil count etc. After report plan of treatment can be decided. Go for deep breathing exercises daily. Ok and take care.
