Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Olfactory Hallucinations Despite Taking Augmentin And Flonase?
I went to the doctor Friday for an issue with smelling cigarette smoke for the past week when nobody around me smokes. He said my sinuses were a little inflamed so he gave me augmentin and Flonase. On Saturday I didn t smell it but now I do today. Does it take awhile to completely work? Could it be allergies?
As per my clinical experience, allergies do pause issue of altered sensation, but not hallucination of olfactory group. If it is the case of sinus inflammation, it takes around a period of 5-7 working days to settle it. If the precise period of antibiotic therapy is over and the issue is persistent, underlying psychosis issue has to be sorted out with an expert psychiatrist or physician.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
