Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Got stung by a bee on my foot near my ankle 5 days ago. Entire foot swelled up as well as half way up the calf. Most of the swelling is gone now, however, I am experiencing some numbness of the second toe. Should I go to my primary care physician or will this eventually wear off?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain swollen foot is due to allergic reaction to the poisnous chemical that is released by the bee sting while the numb feeling is due to there is presence of an anesthesia like agent in the toxin which is used to make the prey unconscious after attack and as the quantity is not sufficient to cause a generalized anesthesia in humans but can lead to numbing of the area around where the bee sting has occurred ..
You need not to worry as gradually when the effect of anesthesia will wean off the sensation will recover in your toe.. Do warm compresses over the region and take anti-allergics like Allegra if required..
Hope this information helps..
