Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I suffered a forearm laceration left and laceration of the radial artery left 2 days ago. I didn t have anyone at the hospital with me at the time of the surgery when someone did show up they wasn t informed very well of my prognosis. I have full mobility of all of my fingers but I have major major numbness up one side of my forearm and into my thumb what damage have I done to myself? I was told to not touch my dressing until I go to a hand specialist. How careful do I have to be as far as moving around and using my left arm? Considering I have full mobility of my left hand and my fingers is it imperative that I go to a hand specialist or can I just remove the dressing myself after a certain period of time?
I had gone through your question I can understand your concern.
As per the history, signs and symptoms it seems to me you have a transient nerve damage which is the cause of numbness, it will heal with time.
If you had been informed not to remove the dressing you must not do it, because some artery or vain which was injured may bleed and you can't control it yourself and can be dangerous to you.
You need to visit a hand specialist as soon as possible to get it removed there and also get your problem fixed.
Hope my answer will help you and visit us back if you have any questions further.
Regards Dr Muzaffer Hussain Parray.
