What Causes Numbness And Tingling Of Tongue While Coughing?

My lips tingle when I cough. I have had this cough for about a week, and it was accompanied by a cold and voice loss. After a few days of severe coughing, beneath my ribs began hurting as a result of the coughing. The chest and rib pain are subsiding, as well as the lip dryness and cracking, but now when I cough (which is now occasionally) my lips tingle. Should I be concerned?

Hi Dear,
Welcome to HCM.
Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . The symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards upper respiratory infection that has spread to other parts also like tongue and larynx. The infection of larynx is known as 'LARYNGITIS' which is responsible for voice loss and infection of tongue is known as 'GLOSSITIS ' which is responsible for numbness and tingling sensation og tongue.

Lip numbness and dryness of lip is due to dehydration caused by infection.

I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist (ear.nose, throat) and oral pathologist for proper diagnosis to find out exact cause and to rule out conditions like nerve disorder or allergy due to certain food and medicine .

Doctor may order blood test ,chest X-ray , throat swab test or allergy test . He/she may prescribe antibiotic course for 10 -15 days ,anti inflammatory or anti allergic drugs .

For now do warm saline rinses ,take advil (if not allergic ti ibuprofen) or tylenol for pain apply lip balm to lip and swelling and take benadryl .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
