What Causes Nosebleed, fatigue And Concussion After A Head Injury?

My 60 year old dad got hit in the head a few times fairly hard, about 2 months ago. He had an MRI and CAT scan later that night and they said he was fine. He felt concussion-like symptoms, saw a neurologist, and the neurologist said his brain could have bled a little, or he has PCS (Post Concussion Syndrome). He had another MRI, and his results were normal, but the neurologist concluded that he had Post Concussion Syndrome and that it would take around 6 months or longer for him to heal. So every day, he s felt the same, concussion-like symptoms, mostly he feels fatigue every day, but not much dizziness, or any other symptoms, he always says he feels like he has no energy. Today he had a nosebleed, he apparently hasn t had a nose bleed in at least 15 to 20 years. This really worried me. It s been 2 months since he got hit in the head, and although his MRI results appeared as normal, is his nosebleed, a result of his head injury? Could they have overlooked his MRI results? I m very worried, I don t want him to die. Will he die from this? Is it going to get worse? If you could please answer me that would be great, thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

There are studies like two biomarkers, glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase (UCH-L1) that can tell in detail too. Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy can detect better than CT or MRI for symptoms check his sodium, magnesium, PT levels. He should not be taking alcohol. EEG once can be done along with PET as these studies will guide him diagnosis for proper treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
