What Causes Nose Bleeding While On Apixaban And Nevanac?
Hi My partner has recently had a cataract removed and has been given 3 different eye drops to be administered several times a day. Can these be the cause of prevalent nose bleeds? He takes Apixaban, Amioderone and large doses of diuretic medication on a daily basis. The eye drops are Maxidex (6 times a day for 4 weeks), Chloramphenicol (4 times a day for 1 week) & Nevanac (3 times a day for 8 weeks). The latter has been given because he is diabetic.
Nose bleeds seem to be due to harmful interactions between the prescribed medications. When taken along with 'blood thinner' like Apixaban the medicines like Nevanac, Amiodarone and Chloramphenicol can increase the risk of abnormal bleeding in the form of nose bleeds, bruises, blood in the urine or stool, coughing or vomiting of blood. He needs to consult his doctor to review the prescribed medications and to adjust or limit the dose of those medications.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
