What Causes Non Stop Bleeding When The Cut Was Hours Ago?
hi there... i was cutting my self. and then last night at about 2 i sliced pretty deep into the right side of my right ankle... i put a gauze pad on it with some tape and then went to sleep, not thinking much of it. when i woke up this morning and took the bandage off it was still bleeding... i freaked out. i dont know if i need to get stitches or anything. its small probably less than an 1 long and like maybe 1/8 wide. it doesnt seem big but no matter how much i put fresh gauze on with pressure it wont stop... do i need stitches?
Hello and welcome to HCM,
continuos bleeding after minor injury can be due to platelet disorder or due to disorder of coagulatiuon factors.
Thus, you need to get investigations to assess the structure and function of platelets as well as levels and function of coagulation factor.
I suggest you to get platelet counts, peripheral blood examination and coagulation tests- PT and aPTT.
These investigations will determine whether there is platelet disorder or disorder of coagulation factors.
You will need to consult a hematologist for further work up.
