What Causes Neck Pain And Headache?

I have had extreme neck pain causing headaches to start at the base of my skull and travel forward. There are little marble sized knots on my neck that I d never noticed before (27) but just started feeling about the time the headaches started in November. I checked with primary care and she s telling me I have tension headaches. My neck/head get really tight and throbbing feeling with consistent pain. Are these lumps normal? Are they causing my head/neck pain? Some physical therapy called Rossiter stretching has supplied some relief but minimal.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think the head and neck pain may be related to spondylo-arthrosis and staying at a certain position can make it worse. Physical therapy is advisable. Use warm compresses and anti-inflammatory drugs such acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
