What Causes Neck And Upper Back Pain Along With Numbness In Hands?

I ve had pain in my neck and upper back for quite a while. Both of my hands go numb when I do activities with them, especially holding objects or raising above my head for a short period of time...such as drying my hair. If I lie on my right side my entire arm and hand goes numb. When I do range of motion with my neck it sounds like rice krispies crackling. I have noticed at times I have a mild loss of balance. My PCP did a neuro exam and he said I have hyper reflexes. My xray shows no curve whatsoever in my neck. My MRI states mild degenerative changes at C5-C6 and C6-C7 levels. C5-C6 and C6-C7 shows mild broad-based osteophyte. Cervical cord is unremarkable. Your opinion would be much appreciated.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have neck and upper back pain along with numbness in hands . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like heart rhythm disorder , dehydration , anemia , disc problem , muscle spasm , medication reaction or side-effect , tachycardia or congestive heart failure . Cervical spondylosis can also cause such symptoms .I would suggest you to consult general practitioner for proper examination . Doctor may take history , check vitals and order certain test like ECG . Doctor may also ask if you start taking new medicine , to rule out side effects of a medicine . Apply warm compresses on back . Doctor may also refer you to orthopedic surgeon for back problem.Doctor may refer you to cardiologist ,who may order troponin t test to confirm the condition like angina . For now stay calm , take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and apply warm compresses on back .
