Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Nausea that occurs mainly at night or in some persons, in the early morning hours, is most commonly associated with GERD or peptic ulcer disease. Both of these conditions would also be associated with pain as well. In addition to the tums, he can try using medication to suppress acid production eg. Pepcid or Zantac or Prilosec or Prevacid or Nexium etc. These medications can sometimes take a few days to kick in because they cannot get rid of the acid that is already there, but they reduce future acid production. A change in diet is also usually needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
