What Causes Nasal Congestion, blocked Ears And Vertigo?

Hi I recently moved to a dry climate. Ever since moving my nose has been stuffed up and I always feel like there is something stuff in my ears like mucus or something. About a week ago I went into a steam room for 3 days straight. While in there stuff was just pouring out of me. I felt great for about 2 days. Then I felt like more stuff was in my ears and I have had vertigo. Did the steam room just loosen everything up just to get stuffed again in the dry weather? I have been told that I have different shaped ear canals than most.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your query, you have symptoms of nasal congestion, blocked ears and vertigo which seems to be due to allergies, nasal polyps a deviated septum and poor immunity of body due to respiratory tract infection.

I would suggest you to apply warm compresses on nose. You should keep your head elevated while sleeping and take steam inhalation on daily basis. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination.

Doctor may order CT scan, nasal endoscopy and blood tests. You can be given a course of antibiotics like Augmentin, anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen, to reduce pressure and clogging of ears decongestants like Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline sprays can be advised.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
