What Causes Muscle Ache While Suffering From Flu?

I think I have the flu. But I ve never had so many muscles aching. I ve had knee problems and plantar fasciitis in one foot. All three have flared up badly in the last day or two, My temp went up to 102.5, it s now down to 101.2. I keep shivering, even though I am in a warm room and drinking hot tea I have no appetite but I choked down some hot soup yesterday and half a slice of toast today, I am female, 67, and in very good shape. I have almost never had the flu. Is this what I have? How long will it last?

Hello,

In flu, natural chemicals are released in the body to help white blood cells fight off infection. However, these same chemicals can cause the body to feel aches and pains as a side effect.

Dehydration is another major cause of bodily aches when a person has the flu. Whether sick or healthy, the body needs water to prevent muscle soreness and cramps. So by simply drinking more water, a flu-sufferer can reduce the chances of feeling aches and pains.

Over-the-counter remedies with acetaminophen or aspirin often help relieve the pain of body aches. Otherwise, it is important to get plenty of rest and take warm baths to soothe sore muscles. A heating pad may also help to relieve muscle pain while recovering from the flu.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
