General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The pain may need to be assessed by imaging such as an x-ray of both the hand and the foot.

With a history of numbness, the pain may be nerve related meaning that there are issues with the nerves that supply this area.
This can occur in various circumstances such as arthritis or any other changes of the spine, diabetes, thyroid disease, low levels of vitamin b12 and folate etc.

Imaging would be the first start, blood tests would depend on findings on examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
