What Causes Migraine Followed By Impaired Vision In The Left Eye?

I had a terrible migraine about 5 yrs ago. That began on a Wednesday when I was at school. Left early and went home. Then by Friday I had no vision in my left eye at all. So I went to the ER and the doctor there told me it was MS. Very scared and did not really want to believe him so I went to eye drs. they could not figure out why I was blind in my left eye. so I ended up at my regular dr. and he told me it was a stroke. I don t know which one it is and I want to be prepared if it is MS.

Short answer: Need more information

Long answer:
From your query, it appears that you were never referred to a specialist throughout your ordeal. The visit to the eye specialist was useful in ruling out any eye problems, but since nothing was found, the problem is probably in the brain. Whether it was a stroke or the first sign of multiple sclerosis (MS), will be suggested in further investigations. Was an MRI or at least a CT scan done of the brain? What else was done? Other information to assess your risk would be:

1. What's your age? Do you have other health problems? What medication do you take?

2. Is there a family history of strokes or MS?

3. Are there any other neurological problems like weakness, numbness, coordination problems.

You are right to question the diagnosis, as it is important for you to know your future risks and management. Please provide me with further information so that I can help you better.

Regards,
Dr. Teh
