What Causes Metallic Taste In The Mouth?

I get a metallic taste on the back of my tongue and I feel coldness starting in my back then becoming very icy cold as it wraps around my chest. I feel only slight nausea and light headedness. Then it passes. The sucky typing has nothing to do with it

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your complain persisting metallic taste in mouth can be due to infection in the salivary gland leading to discharge of infectious fluid known as pus, while other causes of metallic taste can be:
-Side effect of any medication.
-Dental and gum infection.
-Mouth ulcers.
-Acid reflux.
-Dry mouth.
-Hormonal imbalance etc.

Coldness in back that radiates to chest can be due to any problem with the spinal nerves and needs a through examination and an MRI scan. I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can be diagnostic. You can gargle with warm saline water. Gargle with flavored antimicrobial mouthwash. Chew flavored sugar free chewing gum. Drink plenty of water.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
