What Causes Lumps On The Base Of Skull?

hi, I have two lumps on the base of my skull - one on the right and left, but recently, the one on the right has become a bit larger. I understand that lymph nodes can be located there, but it s about an inch above my hair line. they are painless, but can ache when I have a headache. they re also very much immobile. I ve had these lumps for at least year. I m worried that I m either overthinking what it could be, or at times, underestimating the problem. I have not been sick in some time, so the swelling isn t due to an infection or anything viral. please help.

Hello,

The lumps at the base of your skull might be due to lymph node enlargement this can happen even with dandruff, lipoma, epidermoid cysts, ganglion, sebaceous cyst, neurofibroma, severe seborrheic and dermatitis.

You need thorough clinical examination and examination of neck and base of skull and scalp. If necessary, excisional biopsy of the swellings. Please do consult a general surgeon for further evaluation and appropriate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
