What Causes Lower Back Pain During Pregnancy?

I'm 38w4d and had an appointment today. While at the office I had mild pain in my lower back on the right side. My MW said it might just be positioning so I didn't think much of it. When she checked me I was not dilated. On the way home the pain in my back started getting worse. It's been 4 hours of this with the intensity increasing at times when I have a contraction. I don't really have any pain in the front only in the right side of my back and side. Is it possible that I could be in the early stages of labor even though I was not dilated just over 4 hours ago?

welcome to Health care magic.
1.It is difficult for one to evaluate if it is labour pains, as needs PV examination and number of fingers dilatation of the cervix an so.
2.Mild pain and discomfort are seen during the late stage of the pregnancy, its normal.
3.What you have do do is monitor the baby movements.
4.If any thing unusual you see, needs immediate action and see your doctor or ER and get the scan done and other needful things depending on the condition.

Hope it helps you. Wish you a good health.
