What Causes Low Grade Fever While Suffering From An Abdominal Abscess?

My husband has an abdominal abscess diagnosed today on CT with contrast and barium. He has had a low grade fever ranging from 99.0 to 101.7 for 2 weeks since his cholecystectomy (lap chole) 3-5-18. Surgeon said his gallbladder was very diseased which the labs did not indicate. His nail beds today look dark like bluish. I m concerned about the beginning of sepsis. Should i take him to the ER? Thank you, Paula

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, it is best if he is seen especially with a history of an abscess. He would need to be seen and assessed. Blue discoloration of the nail beds usually implies impaired oxygen supply, this may not be the case for him but he will need to be examined.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
