What Causes Low Grade Fever And Soreness In The Neck?

My 10 year old granddaughter has been suffering with soreness in the back of her neck today, as well as in her forearms-elbow area and upper thighs, and her right shoulder is sore when she lifts it. She s also been warm to the touch, perhaps a low grade fever that s we ve treated with kid s ibuprofen. She d been doing a lot of swimming on vacation, although she was last in the pool on Monday. The neck soreness is the concern ala menningitus. She was at day camp all day yesterday. Thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

You should not assume all neck pain due to meningitis. It may be due to simple viral aetiology as she is having generalized muscle pains. She must be examined by a local doctor for meningitis clarity.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
