What Causes Low Grade Fever Along With Fatigue?

I m a 25 year old female and I m a kindergarten teacher so I m constantly around germs. About a month ago I had a severe stomach virus for over one week. Once I began to heal from the stomach virus, I noticed I was coughing non stop and the congestion was so intense that it often woke me in my sleep. I felt soreness in my chest from the consistent cough and was very tired. As weeks passed, the phlegm like cough has now turned into a dry heavy barking cough that intrudes my sleeping pattern as well. The doctor gave me an inhaler and a Z pack. He said my throat and ears were clear but my chest sounded like there were angry gerbils running around. I ve been having on and off low grade fevers as well as fatigue.. if the z pack does not help, should I go back to the doctor? Could it be pneumonia? Any feedback I d appreciate !

Hi,

Pneumonia typically has a fever and can be seen on a chest X-ray. Z-pack covers bacterial pneumonia quite well. It won't help for viral bronchitis, however, and most bronchitis is viral for the 1st 10 days or so.

A barking cough (like a seal or dog bark) is typical for croup, which is caused by a virus. Cool moist air can help for that - such as bundling up and going outside if it is cold where you live.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
