Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Ive had terrible pain in my left side of my stomach just under the floating ribs for a week now i went to the doctor 2 days ago . The doctor told me it might be enlarged spleen and gave me a letter to go get a ultrasound but since then the pain has moved right down to the left waist line of my tummy and the pain has got far worse what could it be ? And should i be going to the hospital ?
as doctor said that u have spleenomegaly and prescribed you ultrasound abdomen if you have done it, well and good, if not, first get it done because it describes the size of spleen based on the size we can go for further management like medication or surgical. Based on your history, initially pain was felt in left side of stomach under floating ribs and then moved to right down to left waist line.
This indicates rapid increase in size of spleen. First go and meet your treating physician and get ultrasound done! Spleenomegaly can be due to sever infection, blood cell cancer, bleeding disorders etc. Massive spleenomegaly is a indication of surgery since its a risk of rupture so ultrasound (abdomen is more important. For pain, you can use tab paracetamol, tab Aceclofenac.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
