General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the post traumatic description of large area of red color indicates hematoma changes with or without infection. My guidelines at present:
- Keep the part clean with antiseptic liquid or spray
- Sterile dressing with normal saline, gauze piece and Neomycin cream
- Prescription of antibiotics as cephalosporin or others for faster healing and prevention of secondary bacterial infection
- Discuss the need of tetanus toxoid injection dose with his primary care as the injury was through wooden piece

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
