What Causes Knot And Red Area On Shin After An Injury?
Hi I wanted to ask a question. My husband hit his shin really hard while moving a wooden dresser and now he had a huge knot on his shin and the surrounding area and wrapping around his leg is not only swollen bUT the whole area around it is now red like a cut that is infected is this something I should be concerned about?
As per my clinical experience, the post traumatic description of large area of red color indicates hematoma changes with or without infection. My guidelines at present: - Keep the part clean with antiseptic liquid or spray - Sterile dressing with normal saline, gauze piece and Neomycin cream - Prescription of antibiotics as cephalosporin or others for faster healing and prevention of secondary bacterial infection - Discuss the need of tetanus toxoid injection dose with his primary care as the injury was through wooden piece
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
