What Causes Knee Pain While Working After An Arthroscopy?

I had no pain for three days after arthroscopic knee surgery (torn lateral meniscus). then I did work around the yard and climbed one step ladder while painting. Now I have pain like I had previous to surgery. Was I doing too much and will this pain go away
