General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Naproxen induced impaired kidney function. Naproxen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug commonly used to treat painful conditions such as joint pains and dysmenorrhea. As far as the kidney impairment is concerned, NSAIDs block prostaglandins, natural body chemicals that normally dilate blood vessels leading to the kidneys.

Blocking prostaglandins may lead to decreased blood flow to the kidneys, which means a lack of oxygen to keep the kidneys alive. That can cause acute kidney injury which can be reversible if the drug is stopped. Consult your doctor for pain killers like paracetamol with or without tramadol / codeine. These medicines are considered to be safe for the kidneys.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
