What Causes Joint Pain And Palpitations While On Atenolol And Valsartan?

I have been taking Atenolol, Valsartan, and Atorvistatin for some time now with no side effects. New doctor just recently put me on Almodopine instad of Atenolol, apparently because it s better for Type 2 diabetics. Have been experiencing heart-pounding up to the ears -comes and goes, especially in the morning and at bedtime- and, all of a sudden, extreme joint pain in the hands and wrists (which might be inflamed arthritis) but never like this before. Is there a drug reaction here, in your opinion? Pay? Really? I ll just go to my own Clinic if I have to pay for another opinion. Sorry to have wasted your time.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Switching from Atenolol to amlo causes sudden variations in the blood pressure which can cause the symptoms you have. But inflamed arthritis is no known complications of amlodepine. Please monitor your blood pressure for three days twice a day. Also take tab. Naxdom twice a day for arthritis. Also do ESR and CRP levels.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
