Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For the past month maybe, I have been experiencing a grayish clay consistency clumps of something when I wipe. Also my vagina has been itching and randomly swells up. It s uncomfortable but not particularly painful. The clumps seem to originate inside/in between the vaginal lips, not from inside my vaginal canal. There is no other discharge or bleeding and no foul smells or anything else concerning. This began a little while after a suspected yeast infection where I used monistat to clear and it went away. This showed up after. I had went to gyn after yeast infection and was told culture was clear. This started maybe a few days after. I have to pay out of pocket and don t want to keep going back. I know it s not normal, but is it harmful to allow this to continue unchecked?
Itchy swollen vagina with grayish vaginal discharge is symptom of Bacterial vaginosis (BV), left untreated, these can lead to more serious issues, like pelvic inflammatory disease(PID). You can take a course of Metronidazole (Flagyl, Metrogel) orally. Take adequate water and rest.
You can also apply a vaginal pessary containing metrogel at bed time for 3-5 days alternately. Clindamycin and Tinidazole also are equally effective. Get treated at the earliest. Avoid sex for a couple of days. Avoid public washrooms & toilets & take care of your hygiene. Take home made food rich in iron , calcium & protein.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
