What Causes Itchy Skin In A Person With Hypothyroidism?

Hi. I have been diagnosed hypo thyroid and am on thyroxine. I have had itchy skin for some time but For the last 6 months I have had what looked like eczema on one shin, it then spread and then started on the other leg. Then both elbows and chest. It itches like mad and is tiny raises spots that are bright red. I m getting major scaring to my shins. Doctors have told me to alternate an anti bacterial and a fungal cream. It s doing nothing and it s still spreading.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think this is not much related to thyroid issues. You may visit your doctor directly to show the rash in order to get an accurate diagnosis. Visiting a dermatologist also may be helpful.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
