I have recently developed itchy skin accompanied by a red streaky rash. The redness is intense and appears only after I scratch an area, so it isn t constant. I would describe the accompanying itch as severe and it seems to be worse on my hands and the bottoms of my feet, although it is present all over. I have had bouts of eczema and psoriasis in the past, but nothing like this. Please advise.
Hi...the condition you described is known as dermographism and is seen in urticaria. You should consult a dermatologist who will advice you few basic investigations to know the etiology underlying the condition. And also you should get your absolute eosinophil count and serum IgE levels done. Treatment is antihistaminics...so start taking tab levocetrizine 5 mg at bed time and apply calamine lotion over the redness. This you have to continue for few weeks to have full cure..the exact duration of treatment depends on serum IgE levels and cure of symptoms. Post your investigations report so that I can help you further in management. Thanks..
