What Causes Itchy Red Bumps On The Area Of Having Nexplanon In The Arm?

I have the Nexplanon in my arm on the right side. I used to have the implanon in my left (2 rounds 6 years). This is the 3rd round. I have really no fat in my arms and I ve had the Nexplanon for about 2 or 3 months now. My issue is that this thing is itching and I have red bumps that are showing up where the stick is. What is this and why is it itching?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Itching, redness and swelling at the site of insertion or removal of Nexplanon are very common but usually temporary side effects, which subside themselves with some time or can be managed by simple home care measures. If your symptoms are not resolving itself or these are more agonizing, then a local anti-allergic like low strength corticosteroid (1% hydrocortisone ointment) may be used to relieve the symptoms of itching, redness or swelling etc. Oral anti-allergic like Cetirizine or Loratadine may also be used, if needed for giving relief in symptoms.

However, if the symptoms are not resolving with these measures or these are becoming more intense, then you are advised to see your doctor for proper management of the condition.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
