Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Itchy Rashes On The Right Knee Joint After A Total Knee Replacement?
I am 16 weeks post op tkr right knee. I have 118 flexion and lack 3 degrees of extension. I have developed a rash on that leg specifically around the knee joint. I did recrive a nickel free implant. I was just released from the doctor s care and pt last week. Is the rash related to the implant? It is itchy but not terribly bothersome.
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Knee rashes could be a reaction to the implant or not. However, it is less likely to be due to the implant as a reaction to the implant may not be limited to knee.It could just be a local skin infection or a reaction to a local irritant.Sure the knee had been plastered or bandaged while in the Doctor's care.Exposing the knee after a long time enclosed may make it sensitive to local irritants.I will advise you just observe and keep the knee clean. You may use an antiseptic solution like cyteal or any toilet soap with anti-septic properties to wash the knee.If the rash persist, you see the Doctor to examine it.He will determine the need for a corticosteroid cream. Hope my answer will help you Best regards
