What Causes Itchy Rash On Arm And Abdomen While On Citalopram?

I have had a very itchy rash on my arm and abdomen for a long time and have seen a dermatologist which has not helped. I am trying to figure out if it could be a reaction to my citalopram. It is the only medication I have not changed or stop taking since the rash started.

Citalopram belongs to the group of antidepressant medications known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) which is used to treat depression. It may improve the energy level and feelings of well being. This medication works by helping to restore the balance of a natural substance called serotonin in the brain. Citalopram can cause symptoms of allergic reactions like rashes in any parts of body like arm, abdomen etc, itching, swelling of lips, tongue or throat, respiratory difficulties, wheezing, dizziness etc. Stop taking this medication will subside such type of side effects over time. But stop taking this medication promptly may develop some unpleasant side effects known as withdrawal symptoms. So, you should consult your doctor before taking or stopping this medication.
