What Causes Itchy Bump At The Base Of Neck?

Tonight my daughter showed me a spot on her neck at the base of the skull that itched. When I look and felt it, i noticed a pea size lump under the skin. The other day I had noticed a little dried blood and thought that she had scratched it causing it to bleed. There are no signs of a bite mark and she says it hurts a little when you apply pressure. What could this be

Hi,

Most likely this is an insect bite reaction, though the bite has gone unnoticed. Just apply Calamine lotion over there, give an antihistamine like Hydroxyzine to relieve itching. She should be fine in a couple of days.
