What Causes Itching Sensation And Redness In Body While Having Fever And Sore Throat?

my son is 7 years old, he was having fever, sore throat, running/stuffy nose, last night he was suddenly itching the whole body, redness all over the body, swollen face, his feet, legs, hands and arms were painful, I thought he was allergic to something, i gave him allergy medicine, and also a pain reliever, he was better this morning, but his face is still a little swelling, do i need take him to see doctor? What can i do to make the face swelling go away? thanks so much

Hi,

As per your complain it seems that the symptoms of fever, sore throat, running/stuffy nose are all due to viral infection causing upper respiratory tract infection. Secondly, swelling on the face and redness all over the body seems to be probably due to allergic reaction and can be due to any of the medication that you might be giving him to relieve his infection symptoms.

It can also be due to allergic reaction to any food, medication, bug bite etc. As the swelling subsided with medication but still some swelling is still present you can give him another dose of anti allergic for complete resolution. Do cool compresses over the face..In case if the symptoms recur consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can advise allergic tests to rule out the exact cause of the symptoms and treat accordingly.

Eliminating the cause of the allergic reaction can help in preventing the symptoms in future.
