What Causes Itching In Arms And Body Odor After Low Blood Sugar?

I have type two diabetes. Insulin short acting with meals. Long acting morning and evening. Successfully lowered A1c to 6.2 and have established training sessions four 45 minutes a week minimum. Problem is lunch time low blood sugar in 50s this past week with episode of itchy arms. Was going to call my doc Monday. Today very alarming......took count was 115....injected 20 fast acting....ate lunch.....one tablespoon peanut butter on wheat bread, one slice water melon 3 oz and banana......bottled water..... Fifteen minutes later went to a store felt very sweaty, sat in cafe took blood sugar, shaky, was 48.....had to drink 12 oz of regular soda to raise to 69......and my body odor was horrible from episode....this was all new to me. I also noticed my arm is black and blue and other arm got welts and rash that disappeared once blood sugar came up to 110. I will call my doc tomorrow but wonder if I should take my slow acting insulin tonight. My last reading was 110.

Diabetologist 's  Response
Hi

I can understand your concern.

As you are taking insulin for control of type 2 diabetes, It requires monitoring and fine tuning if Insulin requirement from time to time.

Whenever your blood sugar gets low - you need to immediately correct it with Sugar supply in any form of Sugar taken orally to restore it more than 70mg/dl.

You are having post lunch hypoglycemia episodes, you need to decrease the pre lunch rapid acting Insulin Dose. Keep Monitoring symptoms of Low Sugar levels if occurs any.
Low blood sugar levels can cause symptoms like feeling shaky or perspiration...

You should continue to take slow acting insulin at night time, if your fasting levels in morning are not less than 70 mg/dl.

Hope this helps.

Thanks and Regards
