What Causes Itching Feeling Like Hives On Scalp?

For the past couple of years or so I ve been having an itching feeling like hives in my scalp that feels like something is crawling. I don t have lice. I am a diabetic. I have restless leg syndrome. I have spinal stenosis. I m thinking this might be my nerves in my scalp. I tired of all the itching and scratching. I am also wondering if it is a side effect from medicine. When I was a young child I had psoriasis in the back of my scalp around the hairline. Should I go to a dermatologist or a neurologist?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You may have eczema or dermatitis that is causing the symptoms with your scalp.
You may try the ketokonazol shampoo and antidandruff shampoo, possibly with coal tar to help reduce the itchiness.
If you notice no improvement with these in 2-3 weeks, it would be recommended to see a dermatologist.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
