What Causes Itching Around A C-section Scar?

The area around my 6 year old C-Section scar has been very itchy and there is a gross film that develops, almost like puss. That makes it itch more and I try not to scratch but it s hard. If I do scratch it ends up bleeding almost like the skin is very thin. Has been going on for a few months now.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It is normal for a C-section scar to itch once in a while even if it has been six years as you mentioned. But the severity of the itching that you are describing indicates that you may have developed an infection in the area. It is advisable to get yourself checked by a skin specialist.

Meanwhile, you can apply a soothing agent like lacto-calamine lotion for temporary relief. You can also take an over the counter antihistamine like levocetirizine 10 drug.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nazma.Amman
