What Causes Itching And Swelling In The Helix Of The Ear?

I have swollen ear; helix, root of helix, and navicular fossa approximately one inch in diameter. It does not bother me, other that it itches and loos ugly. It does not look like abscess. And it itched before it swelled. FYI; I did not pierce my ear.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

While this could be an infection, with the itching and lack of pain, I would suspect it is some sort of allergic reaction, such as allergic dermatitis. I would recommend using a steroid cream on it such as hydrocortisone, and if it doesn't improve within a week, you should probably have a doctor take a look at it.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
