What Causes Itchiness And Burning Sensation In Vagina Before Periods?
Hi, I ve have the Paragard IUD for two years. About 9 months ago I started having burning, itching right before my period every other month. Also it burns when I have sex with my boyfriend that I have been with for almost a year now. There is no foul smell or yellow discharge. I ve been checked and my obgyn said that my vagina looks very healthy. I don t know what to do, it s very annoying. Could it be from the IUD? Should I get it removed?
Hello, I have gone through your query and understood the concern. The itching and burning sensation is mostly due to subclinical vaginosis and the timing is probably due to the alteration in the vaginal pH before the onset of the period. I would suggest a swab test even though the clinical appearance is normal. Avoid irritants like perfumed pantyliners, synthetic undergarments, use of tampons, strong soap solutions to clean the genital region etc. Wash with lukewarm water everytime you use the washroom. The IUD is not the likely cause. Yet, if you wish, you can get it removed. Hope this helps.
