Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Irritation In Eyes Along With Drainage From Nostril?
My right eye is irritated and red with some tearing. My right nostril is dripping clear secretions, small quantity. This is the second episode in several weeks. I do have allergies but worry the this could be more. I ve been using naphcon drops with little relief. Left eye is fine. Do I need prescription drops?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Irritation and redness of eyes can occur in allergy, infection, inflammation, refractive error etc. Dripping clear secretions from nostrils is called rhinorrhea. Rhinorrhea can occur due to allergy, flu, rhinitis, sinusitis etc. Irritation, redness of eyes, rhinorrhea are suggestive of an allergic phenomenon. Is there any history of allergy to any exogenous agent like dust, mites, pollen etc? A clinical assessment by your primary healthcare provider is required for diagnosis and thus treatment.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
