What Causes Irregularity In Periods And Discharge Of Milk From The Breasts?

Hi, I m not sure what s going on, I m 28, have always had regular periods until recently, but I ve become irregular in the last 6 months. In the past 2 months I ve also started lactating, not lots, but at least 4-5ml a day. I ve tried to leave it as much as possible but after checking weekly it s still the same amount. I ve done pregnancy tests at home and had a blood test for pregnancy and prolactin; both were negative. I m not sure what to do next.

I can understand your concern. Menstrual cycles and milk ejection are both dependent on hormones which are released as signals from pituitory gland order their release. As both irregular menstruation and milk ejection are happening at the same time, I would advise you to visit an endocrinologist.

The endocrinologists are experts in detecting and managing disorders related to hormonal imbalance. You might have to go through blood tests to determine hormonal levels in blood and/or MRI/CT Scan to rule out any abnormality in the pituitory gland area.
