Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For over 5 years I have had times where my bowels will purge (a couple of hours in the bathroom) and then I don t go again for a week. I have had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy and my tests come back that everything is normal. The Dr even said, but that doesn t solve your problem. It s very difficult to plan anything because I never know when it will happen. I take Metamucil regularly, I don t eat junk, I don t eat a lot of meat, I try to eat more fruits and veggies and I walk approx. 3 miles several times a week. I m very discouraged and don t know what more to do to solve this issue.
This can all be due to irritable bowel syndrome where the patient is normal, but he suffers from irregular bowel movements like diarrhea and loose stools after taking food and constipation. This disorder can be caused by genetic factors like less production of enzymes in the gut or production of hormones which frequency of bowel movements. it can also be caused from anxiety.
This disorder needs dietary modification more than drugs.
You identify foods which cause it and substitute them. Take plenty of liquids. Have a good sleep. Take curd and milk in solution form. it will make your gut healthy. I have not prescribed any drug as I feel diet modification is more important than drugs to manage irregular bowel movements.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
