Today I ve had a sharp pain just behind my left ear that lasts for about 5 seconds & then it s gone. It started early this afternoon and was occurring about once every half hour but now is more frequent. When it stops, it s like it never happened. Thank you.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Intermittent pain can be due to nerve related causes, this is the most common reason for this type of discomfort.

Abnormal function of nerves is called neuropathy.

It can be temporary or permanent and in some cases, the cause is not found.

Other causes include:(1) diabetes
(2)trauma
(3)vitamin b12 or folate deficiency
(4)side effect of medication
(5)abnormal levels of vitamin b 6
(6)thyroid disease
(7)infections such as shingles
(8)exposure to toxins
(9)nerve conditions such as ms or stroke
(10)dehydration with abnormal electrolytes or extreme fatigue

You can consider monitoring for now, if it persists or becomes severe then you should see your doctor for an assessment.
