What Causes Insomnia And Pain In The Hips?

I have trouble getting enough sleep because I wake very early and both of my hips hurt enough that I cannot get back to sleep. I average between 5 and 6 hours a night. Then in the evening I easily fall asleep just watching TV. This is very disrespectful to my wife but I cannot help it. I am 68 years old and I go in for steroid injections when it gets too painful. What are your thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Some causes of hip pain are:

Arthritis, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis, tendinitis, hip labral tear, muscle or tendon strain, osteonecrosis.

You may relieve hip pain by holding ice to the area for about 15 minutes a few times a day. Try to rest the affected joint as much as possible until you feel better. You may also try heating the area.

A warm bath or shower can help ready your muscle for stretching exercises that can lessen pain.

If you have arthritis, exercising the hip joint with low-impact exercises, stretching, and resistance training can reduce pain and improve joint mobility. Swimming is a good non-impact exercise for arthritis.

Physical therapy can also help increase your range of motion. Paracetamol may be used to reduce pain. If these steps don't work, have a consult with your doctor to make a decision about treatment!

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
