What Causes Inflammation Under The Tongue?

Hello, I have been having an odd feeling under my tongue, in my throat and on my gums. My throat feels as if i have mild strep throat, and i have not been able to check visually to see if there is inflammation. My tongue and gums feel as if they have been dried out and scraped. The area under my tongue seems to be slightly inflamed and feels as if it has small goosebumps.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. If you examine the areas in the mirror, have you developed small red papule like several bumps on the areas you have described?

If you have developed them, you might be having a viral infection or an allergic reaction to some allergen that you might not be aware about. If it is viral infection, it will take 7-10 days for the body's immunity to overcome the infection and only supportive therapy is needed for relief in the inflamed areas. You can apply local Benzocaine gel to the sore areas and can start taking Vitamin B complex supplement (B-Folcin) once a day for 15 days. In addition, you can take Rebagen thrice a day for faster healing of the inflammation. In case it is an allergic reaction, you should take antihistamine such as Loratidine 10 mg (Lorfast) once a day for 10 days.

If you do not find relief in symptoms in 7-10 days then you should visit a physician, ENT specialist or dentist for physical examination of the areas and further investigations.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
